About this training

Imagine you’re overseeing a critical product launch, but you don’t have formal authority over the R&D and sales teams involved. Or perhaps you’re working with stakeholders from multiple departments, each with their own priorities, and you need to align them on a shared vision for the product’s success. Maybe you’re tasked with driving innovation in a highly technical team that is resistant to change, yet your role doesn’t grant you the power to enforce decisions.

These are just a few of the challenges industrial product managers often face when leading without formal authority.

Leading Through Influence is a training designed to equip you with the skills to navigate these complex situations, offering practical strategies for building trust, communicating effectively and motivating cross-functional teams to achieve results, even without direct control.

Target Audience:

Product Managers and managers in adjacent functions who need to influence or create buy-in from stakeholders while they have no or only limited formal authority.

This program is ideal for professionals who:

  • Work across teams like R&D, marketing & communication, operations and sales, where success requires influence rather than direct control.
  • Face challenges in gaining alignment or buy-in from senior stakeholders, cross-functional peers or external partners.
  • Want to build trust, resolve conflicts and foster collaboration to move projects forward effectively.
  • Are eager to develop and refine their influencing strategies to drive better outcomes in their roles.

Lea Tilders

Having lived and worked in different parts of the world, Lea believes that building trust and understanding people often requires adapting to diverse perspectives and finding common ground. True leadership isn’t about titles; it’s about connecting with others – and occasionally convincing them your idea was theirs all along. In trainings, Lea likes to combine practical tools, intercultural insights and a good dose of humour (yes, including toddler negotiation stories, examples of good and bad bosses and also the occasional personal failure) to help you lead with confidence and influence, no matter where – or who you’re working with.

Organized along the NextGen Value Framework for Influencing, this training dives into the art and science of influencing, equipping participants with the mindset and tools needed to lead effectively without formal authority. Participants will explore what influencing truly means, how to craft a structured influencing plan and, most importantly, how to secure genuine commitment from diverse stakeholders across teams and departments.

The training combines theory sessions, real-life case studies, interactive exercises and engaging short videos to ensure that participants not only understand the concepts but also practice applying them to realistic, work-related scenarios. By using hands-on activities, participants can test tools and techniques, gaining confidence and insight into how to apply these strategies in their daily roles.

During this comprehensive training, participants will:

  • Develop a clear understanding of the concept of influencing: what it is, what it isn’t, why it matters, and where it has its limits.
  • Uncover the essence of trust, how it is built and how it determines your ability to influence others.
  • Reflect on their personal influencing style, understanding their strengths and areas for growth, while creating a plan to broaden and enhance their skills.
  • Understand the difference between rational and emotional arguments and why it’s important to use both.
  • Discover the secrets of storytelling and the effect a well-crafted story can have on the audience.
  • Identify common workplace situations where having a well-structured influencing strategy can add value and drive results.
  • Learn about a variety of influencing tools and techniques, reviewing them systematically and assessing their relevance depending on the specific context.
  • Test and refine selected tools and techniques, applying them to practice scenarios to build proficiency and confidence.
  • Explore the art of crafting impactful presentations and and learn how to use age-old principles of rhetoric to persuade.

By the end of the training, participants will leave with a practical toolkit of strategies and a tailored action plan to become more effective leaders through influence, regardless of their position within the organization.
